COMPUTER GUIDED DENTAL IMPLANT CENTER
The use of
computed tomography (CT), including low radiation dosage cone beam computed tomography
(CBCT), and CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacturing) technology
opened the possibility for preoperative implant planning and proper
communication with the patient, surgeon and the prosthodontist.
There are
several software programs helping dentists when planning implant-supported
rehabilitations. For instance, a 3D digital planning file is created for the
ideal implant positioning.
This planning is transferred to surgery, and
operators will use a custom-made surgical template with metallic sleeves to
guide the surgeon to precisely position each dental implant in the position
previously virtually planned, together with specific surgical instruments
(Branemark System Guided Surgery Kit, Nobel Biocare) in combination with a
guided drill stop kit. In addition, a prefabricated prosthesis can be immediately
delivered to the patient.
